FAT MUSICALS: A BODY OF WORK

With dry wit, stunning harmonies, ridiculous choreography, a jar of cookies and a good helping of rage, this critically acclaimed cabaret takes on musical theatre and its greatest (thinnest) leading ladies.

Bigger than Broadway, wider than the West End, join critically acclaimed cabaret stars Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood for a satirical look romp through the world of musical theatre, tongues planted firmly in cheek.

Why don’t fat people fall in love, go on a hero's journey, take center stage? Why are we always the motherly matrons or comic relief? And why when we finally have a moment to shine, do producers so often cast a thin woman in a fat suit? (*ahem* Hairspray)

Glittering with songs from musicals that feature two leading ladies, Fat Musicals takes on Chicago, Calamity Jane, Frozen, Sideshow, A Chorus Line, Wicked and Cats (ok, Cats doesn’t exactly have two female leads, but there’s so much to make fun of in Cats).

With award-winning director Anthea Williams at the helm, and direct from sold out seasons at Sydney Mardi Gras and Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Fat Musicals the latest from the team who brought you festival sensation Mother’s Ruin: A Cabaret about Gin and comedy cabaret troupe Lady Sings it Better.
